General Information
Membership at Good Shepherd Church is a decision for Christ and a commitment to life and accountability in the Church. To become a Christian is to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life. To become a part of a church is to join a team where each of us is growing and finding our place in ministry for the cause of Jesus Christ together. Good Shepherd Church strives to assist the individual and family in their process of Christian growth through The Vine and through our Membership orientation, Together in Christ. As individual become familiar with life together at Good Shepherd and wish to be come a member we welcome them into our community of faith on a Membership reception Sunday.
Together In Christ: Membership Orientation Class

If you are interested in what it means to be a member of Christ’s Church or becoming a member of Good Shepherd Church, our next New Member Orientation will meet Sunday, September 21 at Vance & Reed & Sunday, September 28, at Hessen Cassel from 6:00-8:00 PM. The Faith Friend Dinner will be held on Saturday, October 4, in Raasch Hall beginning at 5:30 PM. Those who desire to join, do so at the Vance & Reed campus on Sunday, October 12, at the 8:30 AM worship hour with a welcome at 9:45 AM at Open Arms. Becoming a Member
Following membership orientation (Together in Christ) persons wishing to take vows of membership are received into membership of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, but may be received at either ministry site. Persons become members through profession of faith in Christ or by transfer from another Christian church where their profession of faith was made. The vows of membership are found on page 34 of the United Methodist hymnal (which can be found in the pews of either ministry site.
Requirements

The United Methodist Church requires baptism and the profession of these doctrinal truths for membership in the local church:

  • Repentance from sin
  • Acceptance of God’s power in your life
  • Confession of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • Openness of the Church of Christ to any who profess the aforementioned beliefs
  • Profession of Faith as contained in the Apostles’ Creed

In addition to these professions, new members are asked to be faithful members of the United Methodist Church through their prayers, presence, gifts and service, striving to strenghten its ministries unto all the world in Christ’s name.
