Christmas Bible School

“Jesus is the Reason for the Season” is not just a slogan at Good Shepherd Church. We live and teach it to with the children through this very special Vacation Bible School experience titled “CHRISTMAS BIBLE SCHOOL”. Children ages 3 through Grade 6 are encouraged to participate in this great program very similar to Vacation Bible School, but with a very consistent message of “The birth of Jesus” and how that special birth impacts our lives as Christians.

Bible Bonanza

Just for 2nd graders. It is a great time in the life of a child is when they receive their first bible from the church. Children in the 2nd grade only and who are actively involved in the life of the church will receive promotional bibles at a special overnight retreat designed just for them. They receive their bibles and have games and activities designed to learn how to use the bible along with some special interesting tid-bits that everyone should know about the bible. 2nd graders will receive information in the mail and through Sunday school as to the dates of this event.

Discovering Lent
A children’s event that is generally held on the Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten Season. A season where Christians reflect on the sacrifice that Jesus made so that we can have everlasting life. Discovering Lent is a time for children and families to discover ways that they can grow as Christians through the disciplines of prayer, fasting, meditation and worship. On Ash Wednesday, as adults gather for worship, children ages 3 – 5th grade participate in a variety of activities that support the disciplines of a Christian walk. The most favored activity is making of pretzels that remind us of hands folded in prayer. Pretzel baking is so much fun that the adults have been known to participate. The pretzels are then baked and served warm after the children have participated in the communion and ashes portion of the service.

Note: Because taking communion is a personal and holy act, it is the practice of Good Shepherd that children only receive communion if a parent is present or has granted permission.
